In your opinion, which of the characters in Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet is most responsible for the play's outcome? Or, does the responsibility for the events of Romeo and Juliet not belong to any one character? Defend your answer.
I think that the person to blame for Romeo and Juliets death is tybult because if he hadnt of killed Mercutio then Romeo wouldnt have camited a crime of passion and wouldnt have been banisned from venera.(DevonL)
I think that in someways Romeo and Juliets deaths were ment to be that way. then again I think it was the servants fault.
My reason for this is that if the servant boy never whent out inviting people to the party and didnt know how to read then Romeo would have never whent to the party and him and Juliet would have never met. Which they would have never fallen in love and got married and then in the end kill themselves which also for a good reason ended the fuid between there families. So in someways it was good that they died and in someways it wasn't.
~ASHLEY~
In my opinion, I think that Friar Laurence was mostly responsible for horrific outcome of the play. First of all, we know that he wasn't intending on killing off Romeo and Juliet. This happened bacause he was simply being careless. Take this for example: When Juliet came to him wanting a solution for her 'marriage' problem,he really shouldn't have given her a potion that would put her into a deep sleep and make her seem dead.He gave it to her without even thinking about the possible outcome if she didn't wake.Yes,she DID wake up, and yes, she was unhurt, but it was careless of him to give such a powerful concoction to a young girl of thirteen anyway. My second reason for believing this is that he is mostly held accountable for the death of the young Romeo. He should have made more of a harder trial to get the message to Romeo about Juliet only sleeping. But because he didn't, Romeo went to visit his wife's 'dead' body, and lost control. He thought that because his true love was gone, gone forever, he should be too. Juliet wakes up to see her new husband dead, and then thinks the exact same thing as Romeo did before he ended his own life. I think that this all started when Friar Laurence gave Juliet the sleeping draft. So you see, if he would have refused her, maybe the ending of the story would be a bit happier.
-Josie Hine* :)
I agree with Josie about the friar making mistakes; but I do not recall Juliet begging the friar for the potion. All I remmember was that she was bummed because she had to marry Paris and so the friar decided to give some potion. But maybe I'm wrong; anway I do totally agree with you about how the friar was so careless and about how he was at fault for Romeo and Juliets downfall. -------Zack I.
I agree with Josie too because taking that potion lead to a different ending on this story than what could have happened. -Drew Sikes
Josie, I never even thought of Friar Laurence being careless to give Juliet the potion, but you’re right. Why would someone give a fourteen-year-old girl a serious potion when she is totally hysterical? -becca worthington I **absolutely~Kate Prefountain~
- disagree with Josie. Like Zack said, Juliet came "beging" for the potion and he just did what she wanted him to do. I also believe that Friar Laurence thought about giving the potion to Juliet because he does have a rather long pause in the movie when he was thinking about it. I don't believe that the Friar could have gotten the message to Romeo quicker because he sworn a vow of poverty. He had no other choice but to send it via donkey. Either he could walk or send a donkey, I think I would pick the donkey. I also don't understand how it was Friar Laurence's fault for Romeo and Juliet killing themselves. They were the ones who chose to kill themselves. Even if he didn't give her the potion Romeo would still be bannished. Josie said that "maybe" the story would have a happier ending. If he hadn't, maybe the both would have died under different circumstances. Maybe Juliet ended up marring Paris. Maybe we wouldn't even have the story of Romeo and Juliet. The "maybe" leaves an unending limit of passibilities to what could have happened. Ultimately I know that Friar Laurence is NOT responsible.
I completely agree with Kate on this one. That's also I thought. Can I respond to another person's response? -Reanna!
I think that Friar Laurence was the most responsible person on the outcome of Romeo and Juliets play. I'll admit that he was a nice guy because he secretly married Romeo and Juliet and he tried to help them escape, but he was basically responsible for both of thier deaths. First of all, he didn't think far enough ahead on the escape plan because he should have told Romeo of his plans before he let Juliet drink the potion. Then after he made that mistake, he used a donkey instead of a horse to deliver his message to Romeo so it took him forever. Romeo's messenger was on a horse and was three times as fast as the friar. So Juliet drinks the potion and seems dead and Romeo's messenger passes the friar, whom is riding a donkey. Romeo gets the news and thinks Juliet is dead and gets on his horse and rides back into the city and passes the friar again going in the opposite direction. So obviously another fault of the friar is that he doesn't pay attention; otherwise he could've saw Romeo or his messanger. Then he gets to Romeo's hut or whatever and discovers that Romeo isn't there and turns around and takes way to long to get back to the city. I don't know why he didn't just call Romeo's cell phone! JK! So anyway, he goofs up again because he's not back in time. Then he goes down into the tomb and sees that Romeo has killed himself because he's so depressed over Juliets death. Then JUliet wakes up from her sleeping potion and the Friar runs away and leaves her instead of trying to save her and escape with her. There were alot of people who made mistakes in the play to cause Romeo and Juliets downfall, but I think that overall, the friar made the most mistakes and the biggest ones that finally ended the tragic story with death. -------Zack I.
I agree with Zack because I think Friar Laurence was a good guy who just made a big mistake. He did everything he could to help Romeo and Juliet be together, like when he married them. When he tried to help them get back together after Romeo got banished, he really screwed up and killed two people. That is why I agree with Zack. -Jacob W
I agree because he had a lot to do with it-Tyler Mummert
I would have to agree with Zack because he gave Juliet the potion in the first place. And I think it was a lot of other peoples fault too.-brittany*millslagle
I believe that the prince is the most responsible for Romeo and Juliet's deaths. In the begining of the play the prince makes a new rule saying that whoever spills the first blood out of the two houses will die. The prince is fed up with both the Montique's and the Capulet's fueds so he made this warning. If the price hadn't done this Romeo would not have been bannished. I strongly believe that the prince is most responsible because Romeo being bannished was the climax. If Romeo wasn't bannished he and Juliet would still be alive. I do realize that if the prince didn't make that rule the Montigue's and the Capulet's would still be fighting. This could have possible killed Romeo and Juliet but under different instances which would not lead to the outcome as it did in the play. The prince's decision in the begining ultimately let to Romeo and Juliet's deaths.
~Kate Prefountain~
Kate, I ABSOLUTELY disagree with you on this one. Really all the prince did was step in and put his foot down. He told the Capulet's and the Montague's that if they didn't stop their pointless fighting, they would be severely punished. So, I'm agreeing with Cole, Zack, Colt, Chad, Drew, and Maryam. If you take a better look at Friar Laurence's actions, you'll see that his own plans were NOT very thought through at ALL. He gave Juliet a potion that would make her look dead. She was thirteen. WHO DOES THAT? I'm not saying that the Friar was a bad character, because he truly had good intentions for Romeo and Juliet. But really the only action that the Prince took was making the new rule about the two fighting familes. -Josie Hine* :
I AGREE WITH JOSIE!! AND YESSSSSSSSSS
Kate i do not know if i can agree withvyou because he just had to put down the law it was not Romeo And Juliets faults for that.
-Cole Gilham
I'm going to have disagree with Kate because I think that it was not the Prince who was at fault. If the prince had not enforced the rule then maybe even worse things would have happened. The prince was just trying to keep the peace and it was the Capulets and the Montagues who were always fighting. If Romeo had not slain Tybalt for killing Mercutio, then things would have been alot different. But I do think you have a couple of good points and respect your opinion. -------Zack I.
!
I would Totally disagree with you Kate. I think that is not the way to go. I believe the prince is in no way possible an responsibility for their immature actions. If the prince wouldnt have stepped in, capulet and montgruel would all be in the grave by now. If he did anything it was help. I dont agree at all. It was all the poor kiddies fault. Want to believe something red mine. mR_Ðû®®!
!
I have to agree with Colt, the Prince had absolutly nothing to do with them dieing and if he did anything it is help by saying that the two familys need to stop fighting. The Prince had nothing to do with thier deaths, they killed themselves, that is thier problem, not the Prince who tried to help. -Chad Sitze WOOT WOOT!!!!
Yeah, I have to agree with Zack because the Price was doing what was neccessary to keep things in balance. -Drew Sikes
I disagree with Kate I don't think that the Prince was at fault. As the matter of fact the Prince was making everything better not worse.
Maryam
Kate, I get agree with what you’re saying about the prince. I never thought of it that way, but in my opinion it was more of the family’s fault for starting the feud and Romeo killing Tybalt. –becca worthington
Kate, I think that I would have to disagree with you. The Prince was just trying to do his job by keeping the peace. --katie*
I would have to disagree with you kate because katie is right he was just trying to keep peace and do his job.*chelsea*
I would have to disagree with Kate on this one because that prince was just trying to do his job. What’s he supposed to do, let people go around a fight and kill each other in his city?-brittany*millslagle
My opinion is that I think that Friar Laurence was the most responsible for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet. My reason is because I think that friar laurence should have thought out the plan a little better than what he did .He should have sent the message to romeo before he had juliet drink the potion .If he would have had the letter sent before hand then romeo wouldn't have thought that juliet was dead and therefore he wouldn't have drank the potion and juliet wouldn't of stabed herself to be with romeo. So if it werent for friar laurence romeo and juliet would have lived happily ever after without any trouble or problems.
chelsea crook
yaeh, well i think that friar laurence had much to do with the death of romeo juliet. i think the same thing he could have pland everything alittle better.
-Cole Gilham
Cole,I agree with you on this completely because he should have thought the plan out a little better than what he did.*chelsea*
Chelsea, I completely agree with you on this one. Friar Laurence was a grown man. Juliet, however, was a young girl. He really should not have given her that potion, but either way he should have made sure that Romeo received the information on Juliet's well-being before he tried anything. But I do disagree with the part in your response that says Romeo and Juliet would have lived happily ever after without any problems. I don't think that's true because even if Friar Laurence didn't give Juliet that potion, he STILL wasn't responsible for the awful fighting between the two familes. Therefore, Romeo and Juliet would have still had alot on their minds even if they didn't even know Friar Laurence. Juliet's father would have still not wanted her to marry a Montague, and Romeo would have still killed Tybalt and been banished.
Josie Hine* :)
I kind of agree with Chelsea about the bad planning, but on the other hand I don't agree with Romeo and Juliet living happily ever after. I think if Romeo knew Juliet was alive and he didn't drink the poison they would be happy, but they would still have to some how leave their families. Just because Romeo and Juliet are in love and happy about that doesn't mean they will be happy about not seeing or talking to their parents. They aren't very old and to be on their own would be very stressful for someone our age.
Loren Zeeck
I agree with Loren about Friar Lawrence having bad planning and how they would probably have a happ life but they would have to struggle through their lives so it would not be happily ever after. But i also think Romeo acted to hastily so some blame must befall him. -Meyer
Loren had a good point with friar lawrence and his bad planning. If the news of juliet dying would have gotten there sooner it would have helped with them not dieing. -Mandy Anne
With my opinion I believe that Friar Laurence is the one reponsible for the death of Romeo and Juliet. The reason I say so is that commonly, people would believe he was the one to get the blame, but also mostly if it wasn't for him giving the "death" potion to Juliet then Romeo would have been alive still. But if he wasn't there Romeo would still be banished and Juliet will have to marry Paris. He really was only trying to help the two out and not cause a war. Well, like I said he didn't mean to lead things to make Romeo and Juliet to die but at least they died together and which lead to peace with the Monagues and Capulets. It was meant to happen and he really played a big role for Romeo and Juliet. - Drew Sikes
I agree that he was only doing things to the best of his intentions, but he did not think out much farther than what was supposed to happen. I agree that without him things would have also turned out quite bad also so I think overall he was the most to blame but also the most helpfull. - Meyer
I completely agree with you Chelsea he could of planned it better-Kody
In my opinion it was quite a few different people such as Romeo, Juliet, and Friar Lawrence. Though I believe it was mainly Friar Lawrence’s fault that things turned out the way that they did. The main reason was that he didn’t think his plan out very well in the beginning. When he gave Juliet the potion he should have told her to wait until he gets a message to Romeo. He also could have just not given it to her for a while until Romeo understood. Or he just could have had Romeo come in and the three of them talk out a solution that did not involve the potion at all. Either way I believe that the decision that he made was ill-considered on his part. - Meyer
I agree with Isaac because the fake death should of been planned better. If everyone involved would have came together and planned it out, the result would have been much better. That why I agree with him. -Jacob W
I agree with Isaac the Friar shouldn't have given Juliet the poiton until Romeo knew she was going to take it. Then, Romeo wouldn't have killed himself and resulted the both his and Juliet's deaths. -Loren Zeeck
The person who I think is responsible for Romeo and Juliet’s death is Friar Laurence, but I don’t think he did it on purpose. Juliet and his plan was not a very good one, and because of poor planing resulted in the deaths of two innocent people. For the plan to have worked Romeo should have been informed of the sleeping potion way before he was suppose to, mabey even before Juliet took it. That way he would have known what was going on. Then he wouldn’t of gotten the poison to kill himself, and no one would have died. Thats why I think the Friar and his poor planning are responsible, and what I think should of happened. -Jacob W
I think the prince had the most to do with Romeo and Juliet’s deaths. If he wouldn’t have made the rule about who ever spills blood first will die, then Romeo wouldn’t have been banished for killing Tybalt. If Romeo wasn’t banished then Juliet wouldn’t have agreed to marry Paris. But, since Romeo was banished Juliet got the “death” potion and caused their deaths. However, if the prince hadn’t made the rule the entire play would have had a different out come.
-Loren Zeeck
I agree with Loren because if Romeo wasn't bannished then the play would have turned out completely different. I like how you said that if Romeo wasn't bannished then their deaths wouldn't have happened. I agree completely with Loren. ~Kate Prefountain~
I think that romeo and juliet were responsible for what they did they couldve told people and the romeo wouldnt of been banished and then they couldve been married and happy forever. So in a way it is there fault. They shouldve stood up to there parents and then they wouldve been fine.
I completely blame Friar Lawerence on the young couples death first off instead of taking a donkey he should of take a horse. Next he shouldn't of even said anything about the potion because he probably knew she would take it anyways.
-Kody
I agree and disagree with Kody there was some better ways getting the message to Romeo but he still should have told juliet about it it wouldve worked good if he would have thought it out better. And he wanted her to take potion.-Stuart
I diagree with Kody to the fullest. Say I did blame Friar, I think they should have been a bit smarter than sending it on the same day. People get around. Words spread, That was a horrible idea. If Friar would have took a jet I think he would still be long gone. I blame it on Juliet for not contacting him way before this happened. Again immature marrige. mR_Ðû®®!
The person I think is the most responsible for the outcome of Romeo and Juliet is Friar Laurence. If he sent out the letter that Juliet is fine and is not dead then they would of lived and not died in the tomb. Friar Laurence could of also sent out the letter himself so he could of seen Romeo galloping by him to go to the tomb to see the dead/not so dead Juliet and Romeo would not of killed himself which then caused a reaction with Juliet to stab herself. Then the two of them could of lived happy for the rest of their lives.
-Marcus
I mostly agree with you Marcus, but i don't believe it was all Friar Laurences fault. Although, you did use facts from the play to support your thoughts which makes it easier to agree with. -KaitlynEaly
I agree with Marcus completely with the fact that is was Friar Laurence's fault. He should have planned the letter more and it may have worked – Emma
-I agree with this response about Friar Laurence. If he would have been less careless with the letter or thought it over more, Juliet’s plan might have worked. –Julie Stambaugh
I believe that Friar Laurence had the most to do with the outcome of the play because he didn't think that far ahead. He had good intentions and wanted Romeo and Juliet to be together and he found a way for them. That was nice and a good thing on his part but he didn't help by not letting both Romeo and Juliet know what was going on. If Friar Laurence would have told Romeo what was going on before Juliet drank the potion, Romeo wouldn't have killed himself which wouldn't have led to Juliet actually dying. In a way I think Friar Laurence had a lot to do with the outcome but I don't think he was the only one that made it end this way. I think their parents could have prevented their deaths just by letting them be together. - Emma Edwards
I dont really agree with marcus... I mean yeah Friar Laurence had an impact on Romeo and Juilet but I dont think he had the biggest impact on them I think it was the nurse...keaton4
I think that Emma is right because Romeo and Juliet could have ran off and lived happly ever after ,but Friar Lawrence (even though he did have good intensions) he still should've thought things through alittle bit more. ~Taylor dale
I think that Emma did a grat job explaining what she thought about this subject. i agree with her to the fullest that it is mainly Friar Lawrence's fault for Romeo and Juliet's death.-*Mandy Anne*
I think the only people that are responsible for their deaths would be themselves. I mean, They meet, then start throwing out lets get married. Even though it could be true love. It should have been more planned out. This is another reason you have to be over the age of 18 to marry now. We would have people in 9th grade married and divorced 5 times just because they wanted to get married the first time they seen eachother. This was an immature act on their part and they cant blame it on anyone else. They should have said, "Hey I like you and all but we cant do this to quickly. We have to let it ride for a bit." Instead of saying, "Oh hey your pretty, Lets get married?" If people can get that attatched thats pretty weird also. mR_Ðû®®!
I love your idea that it was but themselves that were responsible for their tragic ending. You're right about how they jumped into marriage so fast and your comparisons to modern day situations are pretty hilarious.(Not to mention correct) Great job Colt! :P
Kailey
I agree with mr. durr beause it was no ones fault but them self- Tyler Mummert
I agree with Colt completely because they could have planned it all out better than what they did. They didn't have to rush it whatsoever. - Emma
The responsibility of the tragic ending to Romeo and Juliet's love story was not on but one persons shoulders. Many different people and events effected how the ending resulted. Such as their families. If it wasn't for their constant battles and innermost hatred for each other, their love wouldn't be forbidden, and the sequence of falling events wouldn't have occurred as well. There are many others that effected the ending such as Mercutio, Tybalt, Frier Lawrence, and so on. Romeo and Juliet did also make some decisions that could have been avoided, but I think that the whole point of this tragic love story was that it was doomed from the beginning. Even the couple themselves realized this before they met. This so called “responsibility” is to no ones fault, and this was just how the story was meant to be. Everything happens for a reason.
Kailey Ward
I completely agree with you Kailey. You can't just blame it on one person. Reanna!
Kailey, I really like your comment because I agree with it completely. Especially the part about Romeo making some bad chocies. --katie*
I think it friar laurence was at fault he should have thought of the outcomes of what could happen. He seemed like a smart man so why didnt he inform Romeo before he had juliet drink the the potion. True sucicide was not the anserwer that was a bad choice and I cant put friar completely at fault but he was the cause of all the depression that led them to suicide. The potion idea would have been have worked if he thought it out a little better and informed Romeo and Knew forsure that he got the message before he eaven gave juliet the potion.-Stuart
I also have to agree with Stuart because you would think that he would have went the day before and tell Romeo about the plan.
Joseph Prather
Yeah I also agree with stuart because if Friar Laurance was smart about this he wouldve gave Romeo a heads up before Juilet actually drank the potion...keaton4
I think Romeo is more responsible for the outcome. If he hadn't killed Tybalt he would not have been banished. The Juliet and Romeo could have ran away. Romeo should have never come between Mercutio and Tybalt they were just having a little “sword fight”. If Romeo hadn't interrupted there would not have been any problems. He would not have killed Tybalt and would not have been banished. Then Juliet wouldn't have to “act” dead and Romeo would not have killed himself.
Maryam Nasir
I think that you cannot say that it’s just one person’s fault for the outcome of Romeo and Juliet. However, if I had to choose I would say that the person who had the most responsibility for it was probably Friar Laurence. He should have mailed the letter before Juliet took the potion or he should have given Romeo the letter personally. Juliet was relying on him and he let her down, but he was trying to help and He didn’t mean for it to turn out that way. There were so many other things that affected the outcome also. If Romeo had killed Tybalt things would have been so much better. He wouldn’t have been banished and they would still be able to secretly meet. Also, I think that another big factor was the whole feud. You never find out what the feud is about, but if you’re a Montague or Capulet, you hate each other. If the feud wouldn’t have been going on, Romeo and Juliet could have loved each other openly and everything would have been great. I think the feud was a bit childish, and the parents should have acted more maturely. –Becca Worthington
Hey Rebecca. Nice response. I wish I knew what it said. KAILEY
Becca, do you always hve to do this in yellow?. i have to highlight it to read it. ha. -KaitlynE
Nice color Becca i got a head ache trying to read it.-Stuart
I think that the families' fued is what caused all of this. If they weren't fighting then Romeo and Juliet wouldn't have to hide their marriage. The string of events wouldn't of happened like they did. Romeo wouldv'e just met Juliet and they wouldn't of got married and wouldv'e went on with their ive. S I don't think you could just blame it on one person. I think it's just the fueds between the families.
-Reanna!
- I like this idea of the family’s feud being responsible for their deaths. If they could’ve gotten along to begin with, then none of this probably could have happened. Reanna makes a good point --Julie Stambaugh
I really agree with Reanna because if their families didn't hate each other, they wouldn't have to keep their marriage a secret so they wouldn't of had to go through all that trouble to just be with each other and so their deaths most likely would not have happened. ~Taylor dale
In my opinion it was Friar Laurances fault because first he gave Juliet the potion and secondly
he didn't think before he did that and so the letter he sent didn't get to Romeo in time.
If he would have thought about what he was doing than romeo would have known about the
potion that Juliet had drank and they would have escaped away from there families and lived a
happy life togather. *Chelsea Cooley----
In my opinion, no one person is most responsible for the outcome of Romeo and Juliet. Not one single character purposely tried to kill or harm them. They all did, however, play a part in their death I think. For instance, if the prince wouldn’t have banished Romeo from Verona, then maybe he could have known that Juliet wasn’t really dead, or maybe she wouldn’t have even drank the potion at all. Friar Laurence was also a part of it because he gave Juliet the potion, and he was careless in getting the letter to Romeo. In a way, Romeo and Juliet were sort of the problem because they were so in love that they rushed to get married and never even thought about the consequences. Juliet’s parents played a small part in her death for forcing her to agree to Paris. This is why I think the responsibility of Romeo and Juliet’s death can’t rest on one single person.
--Julie Stambaugh
Fabulous job Julie!! I see you had the exact same opinion as me. Way to go! You're definitely correct on this one. I told you we are telepathically connected. ---KAILEY
-Julie, I agree with all your thoughts and opinions on this one.
-KaitlynEaly
I believe it is Romeo and Juliets fault for thier deaths, If Romeo wasn't so dumb and went and killed himself then he would have lived long enough to find out that Juliet was actually alive and if Juliet woulnd't have been so dumb and drank the potion and just ran away then Romeo wouldn't ahve came along and killed himself because he thought she was dead. -Chad WOOT WOOT!!!
I completely agree with Chad. You can't suicide on the actions of others. In the end it's their decision whether or not to kill themselves.-Austin Wright
In Romeo and Juliet I personally don't think there was one person who caused them to kill themselves. I think everything that happened up until the point where Romeo visits Juliet when she is “dead” is the cause, not a specific person. The feud between the Capulets and the Montagues is one of the reasons that would be most at fault. If the two families hadn't been feuding then Romeo and Juliet could have possibly gotten married with their parents approval. If the feud between the families hadn't existed then Tybalt most likely wouldn't have killed Merecutio and Romeo most likely wouldn't have killed Tybalt and gotten banished. I think that the most logical answer to what was at fault for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet.
-Kaitlyn Ealy
I agree with Kate I think without the fued between the Montagues and the Capulets no one would have had to keep secrets and no fighting would have happened. Without the the fued Romeo and Juliet will have been married and they wouldn't have committed suicide.
-Maverick
I think that Friar Lawrence is most responsible for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet, but he meant well. I think he is most responsible because he gave Juliet the potion and he did not tell Romeo sooner. This resulted in both of their deaths. A few things he could have done were tell Romeo ahead of time or had Romeo talk To Juliet before they did anything. But also it could have been their parents because of the way they acted over something that they couldn’t even remember. –Caleb Roegge
I agree here Caleb, I really think Friar is the most responsible and he should of told Romeo!
--Lyndsey Utter
I think that the deaths of romeo and juliet is in the stars but at the same time not because like i beleave it was a diffrent presons fault every time i think about it. like it could have been friar laurence for telling juliet to take the potion or he could have tellin romeo sooner. or it could have been the messanger for leting his donkey get a drank.Italso could have been lady Capulet for being so pushy. so really it could have been many people.-Tyler Mummert
I agree with Tyler because who knows it might not have been anythin anyone could do about it. Joseph Prather
__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
I do think that Friar Laurence is mostly to blame for the events that let up to Romeo and Juliet death. One way he is fully responsible is that he married them without their parents knowing about it. He is responsible because he gave Juliet the potion so she could fake her death and run off with Romeo. He also could have told someone else to tell Romeo about the plan who would of got there faster. I think he is only partly reasonable because Juliet had the choice not to drink the potion and fake her death. So I think that Friar Laurence is only partly responsible for there deaths. There were also several other thing he couldn’t control to stop the events that lead to there deaths, like who they are.
Joseph Prather
I think that Friar Laurances is to blame for everything because. There could have been better way to do what friar had thought. Like he could have told Romeo soon than he did. Or maybe it was just ment to happen, but I think it was all Friar’s fault.
-Cole Gilham
I think multiple people played a role in the death of Romeo and Juliet. The first person who I think of right away is Tybalt. If he wasn't constantly looking for a fight he probably wouldn't of killed Mercutio and make Romeo get anger and kill him,but Romeo didn't have to react the way he did. If he would have just let the prince take care of it ,he wouldn't have been banished so in his own little way Romeo played in the role of the death of himself and Juliet. Another person who had a role in the death was Friar Lawrence . Even though his intensions were good he could'veI had the note sent to Romeo before he gave Juliet the potion. So even though people had a big role in the death I still think it was in the stars. I think that even if all those things hadn't happened I think that they would have ended up the same way in the end no matter what.
***~Taylor dale~***
I think Fria Lawerance is most responsible for the tradgedy of romeo and juliet. If he would have made sure that romeo knew the plan before putting juliet into her little sleep. This whole play could have turned out better. Its not like he meant to have it turn out like this. All in all he meant well . I mean he married them in the first place he wanted them to be happy , and he had good intentions for them.I just think he could have been a little more organized with his faking death fiasco. -zAc Gordley
In my opinion, it isn’t one person’s fault for the outcome of Romeo and Juliet. The actions of one character influenced in actions of another. I like to think of it as kind of like a “snowball effect”. Here is just one example. When Mercutio and Tybalt started to fight, they knew that one of them was going to die. And since their families were rivals, they must have known that it wouldn’t be a good outcome. When Mercutio died first, that caused Romeo to get revenge on Tybalt. Then Romeo killed Tybalt and was banished. If Romeo had just gone to the Prince, Tybalt would have died anyway and the Romeo wouldn’t have gotten banished. But Romeo didn’t have time to think about it. So, maybe all that I’m saying is that they needed to make better choices. But the characters did influence the choices other characters made. --katie*
The person I think is responsible for the outcome of Romeo and Juliet is Friar Lawernce. If he wasn't as careless as he was with the potion Romeo probably would have found out and they would not have to commit suicide. Due to his carelessness I think Friar Lawerence is responsible for the outcome of Romeo and Juliet. -Maverick
I agree with Maverick that giving Juliet the was a careless act. But, I think it was more careless on the part of Juliet. She was stupid to fake death in the first place. So for being a coward she got what was coming to her.-Austin Wright
I think that is was the friar’s fault because I think he should’ve told Romeo that he was going to give Juliet the potion before he even gave it to her. But I also think that it’s kind of Romeo’s fault because he was saying how she still had color in her face and her lips were still warm. If he would’ve put two and two together then maybe he would’ve thought that she was still alive.-brittany*millslagle
I agree with Brittany, he should of realized maybe she wasn't dead and Friar should of told Romeo before giving Juliet the potion.

I think the one most responsible for Romeo and Juliet's death is Friar Laurence. He was the one who gave Juliet the potion to fake die. He should of told Romeo that she was taking it before she took it. Therefore when Romeo would of arrived at the tomb he wouldn't of commited suicide because of her death. This is my opinion, I can see other people also being responsible but to me he was the most involved. --Lyndsey Utter
I think that the people you have to blame for the events that occurred in Romeo and Juliet are Romeo and Juliet themselves. I feel that it is their fault because they're the ones that got married in the first place. If they hadn't gotten married then they both would have lived. And it is also their fault for keeping it a secret. Even though telling their families could have cost them dearly it was still a viable option. And in the end they did pay the ultimate price for their cowardice.
-AustinWright
I agree with austin Romeo and Juliet were at fault more than Friar Laurence the person I blamed they shouldn't have kept it a secret. Also suicide is not the anserwer if my mom died my dad wouldnt drink poison if my dad diaed my mom wouldn't stab herself so i agree that ut was romeo and juliets fault but i think Friar had something to do with it to.-Stuart
I honestly don't think that there is any specific person to blame for the death of Romeo and Juliet. I think that If their parents wouldn't have pushed Juliet to get married to Paris, and there wasn't a feud between the two families there really would be much of a problem. There is also the problem of the Prince banning Romeo for killing Tybalt. And the last is Friar Lawrence's awful timing and planning of giving the news to Romeo about Juliet's "fake" death. But if there was someone to be completly blamed for it all i would blame Friar Lawrence. But i don't think it is exactly fair to put all the blame on one person beacause there were so many incidents. -*Mandy Anne*
I don't think that the death of Romeo and Juliet was anyones fault. I think that their death was a mistake and that everyone should have been aware of what everyone was supposed to do. Although I know this was impossible because they were in two different places and had know quicker way. The only thing that would be at fault would be technology and that's not any one to blame. If they had telephones obviously neither of them would be dead. But then the story wouldn't be the same and be famous for the same reasons.

I think the character with the most influential outcome of the play is Rosaline. If it were not for her Romeo would not have gone to the ball and seen Juliet.
She really put Romeo’s love to the test. His attraction to her caused him to break his family’s feud and go to the Capulet’s ball. I was going to say Tybalt but all he really did is just get in the way and make this worse. I think it as destined to happen as soon as Romeo got married to Juliet. Ariel Zabala
The death of Romeo and Juliet was not anyone's fault. No one is really capable of causing someone to die. Death just comes at it's own. Really, if anything, their suicides were their fault within themselves. Suicide comes from what you want, not what people do to you to make you commit it. Romeo wanted to be with Juliet, and Juliet with Romeo. They killed themselves for one another (which was a stupid idea to begin with).

I agree with tim because you cant really tell whos falt it is.-devon L
The death of Romeo and Juliet was not anyones fault. No one is really capable of of causing someone to die. Death comes as it will. But it could be father lawrences fault for doing it to Juliet and not getting the note to Romeo soon enough. But as i said before I dont honestly think it could of been anyones fault. Romeos death was destiny. Plus without everything playing out how it did we wouldn't have a story of Romeo and Juliet.
-Lacey David
I agree with Devon L when he said that it was Tybalts fault because if Tybalt hadnt of started the fight and killed Mercutio then Romeo would have killed Tybalt and got banned from Verona where his beloved Juliet was, but then I also agree with Zack the Friar had some to blame because he should have planned it more carefully. He should have sent the letter to Romeo telling the plan.-Jessica R.
